Homeowners now have a fully functional all-purpose Fire and Rescue Department! This is a vast improvement on the equipment we had a year ago. Two pieces in our inventory are unique to the East Zion SSD, making the range of our equipment more versatile than any of the other departments in Kane County. We have an excellent Fire Chief in Brad Freeman, who many of you met at one of our last annual meetings. Brad is responsible for fleet purchase and maintenance, fire training, and incident readiness. Over the past two years the EZSSD Board has improved "fire flow" in the water pipes by installing wider pipe and extending coverage to more of the SSD.
In addition, Zion Ponderosa has donated land to the SSD for construction of our fire house, which is located near the water treatment pools. A contractor has been hired and construction has begun. By Labor Day, we will have a fire house to house the 4 vehicles, a command center within the fire house, a fully trained volunteer fire crew and enough capacity and pressure from the fire hydrants to address fire events within the SSD.
We are proud of all who have been (and still are!) involved in this process that will deliver excellent protection to the land, homes and people of East Zion!
